After living 30 years in Edmonton and pastoring Bethel Bible Fellowship for 12 1/2 years, Pastor Elmer and Maxine Whittaker accepted the call as Associate Pastor at Living Stones Church in Red Deer, August 1996 to January 1998. After much time was spent seeking the Lord with a core group of called believers they were led of the Lord to plant new work on the north side of Red Deer. Liberty Christian Assembly was birthed on February 8, 1998 at the Holiday Inn. The name Liberty Christian Assembly was given by the Lord and prophetic words proclaimed that this body would move in the gifts and the power of the Holy Spirit to bring spiritual, emotional and physical healing to the needy people of Red Deer and surrounding area. On August 17, 1999 when Liberty was only 1 1/2 years old, Pastor Elmer suddenly went to be with the Lord. Even though we were devastated, we tightly joined hands together, knowing that God had called Liberty to a unique work in Red Deer.
Our Vision Statement
Liberty Christian Assembly came into being under the anointing and direction of the Holy Spirit in response to the prayers of Pastor Elmer Whittaker and a group of God's people who were seeking after a fresh move of the Holy Spirit. The vision that God gave Pastor Elmer and this group was for the planting and the future of Liberty Christian Assembly. It is as follows: Liberty will be founded and built on the principals laid down in the Word of God, which is the final authority in regards to the building and the spiritual growth of the Body of Christ. Liberty will be a house of Prayer and where the presence and demonstration of the Holy Spirit will be the norm not the exception. Our focus will be to love, feed, and disciple the people of God in a bond of unity so that they may be properly equipped to reach out into the community and the world with the message of salvation through the shed blood of Jesus Christ. This equipping will be accomplished through anointed worship and the faithful teaching and preaching of God's Word. The gifts of the Holy Spirit will always find freedom to be expressed in Liberty when they are truly exercised in the Spirit. We will also recognize the ministry gifts given to God's people for the building up of the Body. We will never back down to the attack or insinuations of Satan. We understand that our authority and strength rests in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and His Word. Liberty is a body, which will work together in unity with other churches in Red Deer and area to accomplish the "great commission" that God has given us as part of the larger Church. The appeal of Liberty will be to the broken, the hurting, and the unchurched, who will be drawn by the Holy Spirit to find hope and salvation in a world void of Hope. Finally, the focus of Liberty will always be people and never the physical building of the church. We will be active of the building up of God's kingdom here on earth. We will be a church who will know and love their God and will be known by their love for each other.
Our Church
Our Church is a part of the Fellowship of Christian Assemblies which is an international fellowship with churches, ministers and missionaries in a variety of countries of the world. We are a fellowship of autonomous, evangelical churches with historial roots within the Pentecostal movement. We view ourselves as called of God to share in mutual Christian care and practical cooperation in carrying out the Great Commission of our Lord Jesus Christ. We affirm our commitment to both local church autonomy and interchurch cooperation as biblical norms for our life and ministry. We also affirm our call to work in the spirit of love and unity with all true believers in our common ministry within the Kingdom of God.
